Weather Whiplash in the Mid-Atlantic

We could not go without mentioning our wacky weather here along the east coast over the past week. There were several days last week when the furnace either did not run at all or ran for a total of 45 minutes for the entire day.  On Monday night and continuing throughout the day yesterday, that all changed and we received several inches of snow and then a coating of ice on top of that.

We received between two and three inches of snow which, on its own, would not have caused great difficulty.

The problem arose when sleet and freezing rain rounded out the precipitation.  That made for some very slippery conditions through at least noon yesterday.  Temperatures made it to the mid thirties in the afternoon and that allowed some thawing.  But that all froze again overnight.

The bamboo along the side of Crest Avenue was heavy laden with ice.

The same was true in the back.

Here, a better shot of the weeping bamboo over the deck.

It is still bitterly cold in DC today.  And the winds are ferocious.  Just miserable.  But we are all keeping good thoughts going for next week when we should be back in the mid to upper fifties during the day.  You may arrive any time now, Spring.  We are ready!
