Steven's Birthday Celebration

We have been gone for a couple days.  We took some time away to celebrate Steven's birthday.  Our friend Bev was here to celebrate the special occasion also.  She arrived on Friday evening and the party began.  We enjoyed our long weekend and we partied as hard as three middle aged people can party.  This week will be filled with posts from our time together.  There may even be a recipe or two that you will want to print.  Let's get started.

We will start with the cake.

The Watergate Pastry.  What can I say about The Watergate Pastry?  It is positively the only place in town from which to buy a birthday cake.  I have never had a cake from any other place that even begins to compare.  Is is expensive?  Yes.  Is it worth every penny?  Yes.

It was Steven, Bev and myself, so I thought a six-inch cake would be enough.  And it was.  This cake could have easily served four to six.  I ordered the white chocolate mousse cake with mousse filling. Words simply cannot describe the taste.  Magnificent.

I thought a cake like this deserved a regal topper.  I found this candelabra topper at Target.  With the silver candles, this was quite a look.

Another shot of the beautiful cake outside on our dreary evening.  But the dreariness in no way hampered our birthday celebration.

I found the candelabra in the party section of Target, with the gift wrap and cards.  It is plastic.  All you do is snap the two pieces together and then insert the base into the cake. Add the candles and you are ready for a party.  There is a plastic extension on the bottom of the base that holds it securely in place.

Having recited the requisite "Happy Birthday" refrain, it was time for the birthday boy to make a wish and blow out the candles.  Plates lined up, it was time to cut into this luscious creation and see just what it was all about.

Heaven on earth.  That's what it was all about.  The cake was freshly baked on Thursday morning.  I picked it up on Thursday around 1:30 PM.  We celebrated on Sunday and it was still just as fresh as the day it was made.

An empty plate.  Mine.  I believe there was a second helping as well.  No, I know there was a second helping all around.

If you are in the DC Metropolitan area and you are looking for an exquisite cake for any occasion, you must go to The Watergate Pastry and purchase.  Any of their creations would be divine on your buffet.  Or, if you have been invited to an event out of town, plan accordingly so that you can pick up your cake and take it with you on your road trip.  Everyone will be so happy you did.
