The Perfect Lightbulb

Recently we have talked about choosing the right light bulb for the front lamppost. In the process of changing the bulbs and trying different configurations, the cut glass bulb that was in the lamp finally died. Today I am happy to announce we have found the perfect bulb and we are moving on from this project after this post.

On a recent trip to Lowe's my intent was to pick up a new cut glass bulb to replace the one that finally bit the dust. In the process of checking out all the array of bulbs, I found the one pictured above. First and foremost, I love the design of this bulb in Kichler's vintage collection.

A closer look revealed there are many more advantages to using this bulb than just for aesthetics. Not only is the design positively wonderful, but it is an energy efficient bulb. You get 60w of illumination for only 4w of power? That is amazing! And will be noticed on the power bill.

The bulb itself is amber colored, which is a nice effect.  The light is rather golden.

When the cut glass bulb died, I temporarily replaced it with a regular soft-white bulb. But that would never do. Details. You must always pay attention to the details. Even the choice of bulb in your front lamppost. People recognize attention to detail. And don't you want the front of your house to be the most outstanding on your street?

In with our new vintage collection bulb.

And a few hours later, we had illumination. Beautiful, soothing, golden hued illumination. This is just perfect for year round use. But it is especially nice during the holiday season. Very warm and inviting to your guests.

Do you notice anything else in the last two pictures? Check out the grassy area between the street and the sidewalk. The yard guys came during the time I was experimenting with this and cleaned up the leaves. I love finding things like that in pictures and film.

Maybe you will give your front lamppost an upgrade by installing one of these new super efficient bulbs. They are not terribly expensive like so many of the efficient bulbs are these days. Affordable and beautiful. What a great combination!
