GreenSaver Pods for the Refrigerator

A few weeks ago we talked about placing these egg-shaped produce freshness extenders in the produce drawers in the refrigerator.

I liked the design of these for the produce drawers and, indeed, the vegetables in the produce drawers lasted longer with these little devices in place.  I decided that since they seemed to do such a good job in the produce drawers that it might also be a good idea to add similar devices inside the open refrigerator section.  It couldn't hurt.

I found these very cute little greensaver pyramid shaped pods by Oxo which I thought would work perfectly on the refrigerator shelves.

These work on the same principal as the Fresh'n Crisp pods.  They come with dessicant filled bags that absorb any ethylene gases inside the refrigerator.

You just remove the top and place the bag onto the base of the unit.

Then snap the top back on and you are ready to go.  I love this design which is perforated on all four sides for good airflow.  These work very nicely in the refrigerator compartment because they are flat on the bottom, so they sit nicely on the shelves.  The egg-shaped ones work better for the produce drawers, but would not be a good look rolling around inside the open refrigerator area.

Also handy on these is the built in reminder.  There is a dial inside the top and you just rotate it until you reach the month in which you placed them inside the refrigerator and it shows you when it is time to replace the insert.  Very nice, like everything from Oxo.  Very well thought out.

Here we have the first one of these in the refrigerator compartment.  This is on the middle shelf.

Another on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.  This shelf is just above the two crisper drawers.

I am anxious to see if these will help keep the refrigerator compartment dry during the summer months.  The humidity here in the mid-Atlantic is stifling in summer.  On days when I am in the kitchen preparing food and the refrigerator is opened several times, I notice that some of the containers tend to sweat a bit from the humidity that is constantly entering the refrigerator when it is opened.  Let's see if these do anything to help remedy that situation.
