Well, ... a little over a week. Take a look at these pictures from March 5 and what we hope was our last blast of old man winter.
The snow was light. However, there was a layer of very heavy ice underneath since the storm began with rain and freezing rain.
This tree in the front yard was so pretty.
And finally, a picture of "Bug" all covered in snow. This was taken on Friday morning, March 6, as we were leaving for work. The sun shone brightly all that day so much of the snow melted off of Bug during the day.
Looking west toward Arlington along the boardwalk at Washington Harbour. That is a Marriott hotel you see in the distance and the Key Bridge which connects Washington, DC, in particular, the Georgetown area, to Virginia.
The time had come to break down the ice skating rink at Washington Harbour. Here you see that they have turned off the cooling grid and removed the ice in big chunks. They literally take shovels and break up the ice and then place it on the bricked area to melt.
A closer look at the plastic cooling grid which they put down each year on the rink. Ice cold water runs through this grid of tubes and keeps the ice from melting. Then they flood the basin with water and you have an ice skating rink.
Here is another, closer look.
And a closer look at the ice chunks removed from the rink. Look how thick the ice gets. Ice skating is a very popular activity for many residents of Washington.
And finally, one last ENORMOUS pile of snow just beside the ice skating rink.
I think we are done with winter. At least I hope so. It has been especially brutal for us this year. We are not equipped in the mid-Atlantic for winters like the one we just experienced. The weather guy, our favorite Brian van de Graaf at News Channel 8, tells us that it will be near seventy today. That is a bit warm for this time of year, but we'll take it.

A look down Dewey Street.
And a look out over the deck as the snow continued to fall through the morn.
A close-up shot of the same view. Looks like one of the neighbors has a branch that needs some attention. We are very lucky on Dewey Street that all the neighbors take such good care of their property. I'm certain this will be taken care of as soon as warm weather arrives.
Another look at the deck and the planter with the evergreen. I am happy to report that this little arborvitae survived. All the snow has since melted and it took its form right back.

Jump to last Friday, March 13.
One week and one day later. The weather did a complete 180. Here we have a couple enjoying a walk along the Potomac River at Washington Harbour.
