A New Liquid Soap Dispenser in the Kitchen

I decided it was time to install a liquid soap dispenser in the kitchen sink for dishwashing liquid.  Having the bottle of dishwashing liquid sitting on or next to the kitchen sink is not the best look.  For a while I had a heavy glass bottle with a pump attachment and that worked very well, but ultimately I decided a soap dispenser would work best for me.

I placed the order online from Amazon.com for the dispenser I wanted and it shipped right away.  I had it in two days which is the beauty of shopping at Amazon.  I have noticed recently that Walmart has started selling items through their online website much like Amazon.  You can get some real buys online at Walmart these days too.

Out of the box with all three of the parts needed to install a kitchen sink soap dispenser.  We've got the plastic bottle which will hold the liquid soap, the tube which will draw it up from the bottle and the pump which you will see on the sink.

I think it is safe to say that all drop-in kitchen sinks come with the sprayer attachment port that has a cover like you see above.  If you want to install a sprayer attachment using this port, by all means do so.  I think that is not a very common installation these days because most kitchen sink faucets come with the sprayer attachment built in.  So this port is much more likely to be used for a liquid soap dispenser today.

You simply remove the cover and now you are ready to install the dispenser.  You can easily pry this off with a flat-head screwdriver, but do not use a butter knife from the cutlery drawer.  I know it's tempting, but don't.

The pump device separates by unscrewing the large plastic nut on the bottom.  You simply drop the pump attachment into the port and tighten it in place by reaching underneath the cabinet and securing the plastic nut in place until everything is snug.  You can secure the tube in place at this point or you could do that before you drop everything in place.  The tube is just inserted into the bottom of the pump attachment until it is snug.

Then, under the counter again, thread the soap dispenser bottle onto the bottom of the pump until it is just hand tightened.  Do not overtighten.

Your new soap dispenser is in place and ready to be filled with liquid dishwashing soap of your choice.  You simply lift off the top section of the pump and fill the bottle below by dispensing the liquid through the top opening.  When you are done, push the dispenser back down on the bottom half of the pump assembly.

And there you have it.  A nice new liquid soap dispenser and a very nice, clean, uncluttered look at your kitchen sink.
