We visited Dr. Rosen on Saturday to have her take a look at Baxter's incision. She decided it would be best to sedate him to remove the old bandage and clean up the incision, so we left him for a couple hours and came back to pick him up.
Here we are when we first got there. That's him looking out the window leaning against my shoulder. You can see that he still has the original bandage on his foot with the red heart.
And another shot of him very intently watching all the foot traffic on the sidewalk out front. He is up for just about any adventure as long as I am there. Even a trip to see the Veterinarian. We were number one on the roster this morning, so we were taken back right away. The original bandage was a little difficult to get off, but with me offering a soothing voice and Dr. Rosen carefully cutting it off, we finally removed it. She wanted to clean it thoroughly and check it out, so she sedated him and that way she was able to take a good look at everything while he was out.
When we returned to pick him up, he was wrapped up again, this time with a pink heart on the bandage. She said that it had healed enough that she was able to remove the sutures, but that there was one spot that was not completely healed. So she wrapped it up and gave us another round of antibiotics.
Poor little guy was out of it after his visit. I put him in his seat in the car and we took off for home. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep.
When we got home I put him in bed and he was happy to just lie there and rest and watch tv for the rest of the day. He has since recovered from this and is back to his old self again. We go back on Saturday for another look and hopefully he will be bandage free after the next visit. We will see how it goes. He is such a strong little boy and I'm sorry he has had to go through this. Life throws you a curve ball every now and then, but the prognosis is good. Dr. Rosen says that his lymph nodes are not swollen so that is a good sign. We are hopeful that she got it all during the operation. We will be glad to get back to normal in the coming weeks.
