A Spooky Christmas Drive

On Friday, we spent the day with my mother and sister and her family in Midlothian, VA.  The drive was uneventful.  Traffic was light driving down and on the way back.  But one part of our drive down was, ... well, ... eerie.

When we reached the Nice Bridge on Route 301, it was shrouded in heavy fog.  In addition to the heavy fog, there was a large construction crane which could be seen in the distance.

After you reach the top of this bridge and start to descend, there is a distance that is flat that carries you over the Potomac River and into the state of Virginia.  This low-lying part of the bridge is the part that was shrouded in fog.  The whole scene was very spooky.

The crane rising out of the fog.

Another shot of the crane.

As we got very close, I got this picture of the crane platform in the dense fog.  It looked like a haunted pirate ship.  I wanted to get over the bridge and back on land.

Finally, back on land.  But not everyone in the car was worried about this bridge business.  Mr. Baxter Newman was tucked away in his seat, enjoying the ride to grandma's house.  The drive back was a breeze and a good deal less spooky.  A wonderful day.  We hope all of you had a Merry Christmas.
