Our Trip to Savannah, Part II - The Boat Ride and Dinner at Deer Creek

I mentioned yesterday that we took a boat ride around the island during our stay at The Landings. This was part of the discovery package offered by The Landings sales group.  It was a very nice tour and very informative.  We were on the water for two hours.  There was another couple on our boat who were also interested in buying at The Landings.  When introductions were made, we found out that they lived very close to us in Maryland.  Probably about 30 miles away.  What were the chances that we would all four be in Savannah at this exact time and end up on this specific boat?  Everything happens for a reason.  It was obviously meant for us to meet.  Where things go from here, only time will tell.  Read on for the second half of our trip.

We made our way to the marina where Captain Joel and his boat were waiting.  In this picture, we are all four on the boat and setting out for our tour.

The outboard motor on our boat as we slowly made our way from the dock.

And then at full speed as we set out on our adventure.  I had not been on a boat for many years, so it was a like a whole new experience.  The day was beautiful.  Warm weather but not an ounce of humidity.  The perfect day for boating.  You can see the masts on the boats at the marina we just left in the background on the left side of the picture.

Here, a picture of yours truly on the boat with the current behind us from the outboard motor.

And a picture of Steven enjoying the ride, although he doesn't look happy.  He had his eyes closed and was enjoying the warm air.

The sun obscures what I was trying to photograph here.

I re-positioned myself in the boat and got a picture of this enormous birds nest.  I had never seen anything like this before.  It was a bald eagle nest.  We had hoped to see one or two eagles, but they were not around during our visit.  Still, just seeing the nest was a treat.

Here, we had traveled past all the inlets and islands and were positioned in the Atlantic ocean.  Of course, this picture does not do it justice.  It was quite a feeling to know that you were in this small, outboard motorboat with four other people and you are sitting in the Atlantic ocean.  Exhilirating and a bit scary at the same time.

And, ... later that day ...

We finished our time on the water and stopped and had lunch at a local bar & grille in the town square, which was delicious.  We picked up a few things for that evening and then we made our way back to the house.  I took a nap and Steven took a bike ride.  Around 4:30 I started setting up for Bev and Jillian's visit.  They drove down from Erie to check out The Landings and a couple other communities.

After a cocktail or two at the house, we made our way to the Deer Creek Clubhouse for dinner.  This clubhouse is situated on the Deer Creek Course 18th Green and is positively beautiful.  We wanted to sit outside by the firepits for dinner, but nothing was immediately available when we arrived, so we went to the bar.

The bartender was very friendly and decided he was going to impress Bev and Jillian with his own specially blended cocktails.  Bev ended up with this white cosmopolitan.  Very pretty.

And Jillian, at the end of the bar reaching for a cocktail napkin, had a special concoction of I think white rum and a white wine and fresh fruit and other spirits.  Steven and I had boring vodka tonics. But, ... they did have diet tonic.  Everywhere I go I have to drink vodka and club soda because the bar never has diet tonic.  At Deer Creek, they had diet tonic.  That is reason enough for me to move there!

Here, a beautiful picture of Bev and Steven at dinner.

Dinner was spectacular.  We started with this wonderful stacked avocado and lump crab creation.  It was out of this world delicious.

Then there was this spicy hummus with pita and fresh veggies.

Steven ordered the steamed mussels and clams with crusty bread.  I like clams, but I am not a big fan of mussels.  Although I have to say, these were exceptionally good.  And the clams were over the moon delicious.

At the end of dinner, we were presented these two bottles of wine as a show of appreciation from Deer Creek for visiting and considering making The Landings our new home in the near future. What a wonderful gesture.

I attempted to take a couple pictures of the firepits before we left, but the pictures are not as clear as I would have liked.

In this one I was trying to get a clear picture of how the light from the fire shown on the Spanish moss in the surrounding trees.  It was much more beautiful that it looks here.

A delightful trip and one that I will not soon forget.  We are thinking that we will be making the move to The Landings in about four years.  Of course, if we can make it happen sooner, all the better.
