The New Gutters are Installed

We can finally announce that the exterior work on Dewey Street is done.  The guys did a great job. The siding looks wonderful.  The roof looks wonderful.  And they installed the new gutters and they look wonderful.

So step back with me to about eight weeks ago.  This is what we had.  The old siding had been removed along with the sheathing and insulation had been installed where there had been no insulation previously.

A little while later, we had a beautiful new window and siding installed, but there was still the issue of new gutters to be installed.  That is now done.  This was probably not my first choice of how they would have been installed, but I understand the science.  And, quite honestly, you don't really even notice it when you are on the deck.  There had been an issue of water leaking into the kitchen behind the old gutters, which made quite a mess of things.  The new gutters are extra-wide and do not allow water to accumulate and run over the sides during heavy rain, thereby fixing the leaking problem.  As an added security, this section of gutter was added on an angle to divert water to a smaller section of gutter over the office.

This gutter takes the water straight down onto a cement splash block and out into the yard away from the foundation.  I thought it very clever of the installers to think of all this.  Very ingenious.  I was most impressed.  During last weeks rains which were remnant of hurricane Joaquin, we had not one drop of water leakage into the kitchen.  Believe me, if these new gutters can handle that rain, they can handle any rain.  So, the exterior of the house is now in like new condition.  It was a bit of a mess for several months, but well worth it.  I only ended up with one nail in a tire through all of this.  Not bad!
