We enjoy cocktails every now and then. Most, if not all of our friends enjoy a libation. An evening of cocktails can be delightfully fun, but you should make sure you offer your guests a platter or two of goodies to snack on while enjoying their drink. And a festive cocktail napkin if you are so inclined.
There are a ton of cocktail napkins available today, most with very funny quotes printed on them. I particularly liked the two I am showing you today.
So funny. Everybody gets a kick out of these. It makes the evening all the more fun. Life is short, so have fun.
Before any cocktail party I slice at least one lemon. Most times more than one because I find most people like a twist of lemon in their glass. Whether it is a vodka and tonic or a glass of seltzer water. At the market, be sure to select your lemons from the bin. Do not just buy a bag of lemons. You want to get the best lemons you can. And you want large lemons. The ones in the bag are too small. And they do not have a very good flavor. Spend a little more and get good lemons. One additional bit of advice - do not use Meyer lemons for your cocktails. I have used them in the past and it did not work for me. They tasted rather like a slice of orange in the drink rather than lemon. Meyer lemons are delicious and they certainly have their place in the kitchen. But not in a cocktail.
This particular evening, there were three of us. So here we have lined up our beautiful cocktail glasses from Crate & Barrel. Each of these has a bronze color around the rim. Each glass was then filled with ice and a lemon wedge. (Doesn't this picture look so cool and refreshing? Makes you want to have a cocktail, right?)
You can pour right over the lemon wedge. It only adds to the flavor. Here we are serving vodka and tonics. Very delicious. Be sure to add your swizzle stick. Personally, I must have a little stirrer or swizzle stick in my cocktail.
For our cocktails we use Skyy vodka in the unique cobalt blue bottle. It is very smooth, thrice filtered using real California limestone, and quadruple distilled. What you end up with is a fresh, clean cocktail that is most enjoyable.
As for your tray of munchies, let your imagination take you where it will. Above, we offered two flavors of grapes, a cheese trio, wasabi peas, freshly made hummus, and endive, sliced pepper, bread sticks and crackers for dipping.
A while later, I added a bowl of ruffled potato chips and freshly made french onion dip, which is always a favorite. I like presenting on a board. Actually a piece of slate at this event. Everyone gathers 'round and helps themselves to their favorite finger food. The finger food helps keep something in the belly so you do no end up with drunken guests.
A few cocktails. Some tasty treats to nibble on. A perfect evening. And it can be done by you with very little effort or expense.
